The Architecture of Low Power Computers and Their Design Considerations
Ten years ago hardly anyone worried about computer power consumption. Now, low-power and power managed systems constitute the fastest growing segment of the computer industry, and everyone wants to coax out a few more MIPS from each precious milliwatt. CPU’s featuring low-power states have been around for a few years, but achievement of effective power management requires a systems approach. Every component in a system must behave in concert with the CPU’s low power performance. Alain Philippe, Engineering Director of Applied Data Systems, is the architect of more than a dozen new low power designs each year, and explains here the various techniques used and tradeoffs made to create effective power management for each application.. What is the all in cost of JUST Design? Some 3rd Party Opinions
Embedded Market Forecasters - Commissioned by Microsoft to compare the cost of Windows and Linux development, this survey does an excellent job of establishing the general order of magnitude of an embedded program, forget abut OS vs OS considerations.
Venture Development- Commissioned by the Embedded Linux Consortium to compare CE and Linux development cost, this survey likewise establishes real work pricing
