About ADS and its Competitors

  • ADS has been making SBC's since the early 90's. We were first out with generic ARM and with Windows CE (2.12), both delivered in 1998 as soon as they were available. Our first embedded Linux solution was shipped early 2000.
  • ADS is a Gold Level Partner for Microsoft's Systems Integrator group. Last year, we were MS embedded partner of the year for the hardware category
  • We're a close partner with Intel, as well as companies such as OSIsoft, Indusoft, and universities like MIT and the CALCE Labs at UM. Even IBM has used our systems as reference platforms.
  • ADS has 45+ employees, with engineers primarily dedicated to CE, CE.NET, Linux and customer support. We are a larger company than most others servicing the embedded RISC market, with more resources.
  • Unlike our competitors, ADS support comes standard and no charge for any OEM on path to produce a product based on an ADS design.

Product Issues

  • ADS has the richest, flicker-free graphics of any competitor we know. Most competitors show QVGA displays because that's what's sold to the majority of their customers. Even Intel hasn't yet done a 16bit color SVGA interface from the LCD controller in the XScale...ADS did this as soon as we got the beta samples of the PXA250 (255). Since we supply kiosks, POS systems, and the gaming industry, our graphics have been pressed to meet and exceed the most challenging requirements without a separate graphics chip.
  • We routinely produce systems that are Industrial-Spec, SAE Spec, Shock and Vib tested, Mil-Spec (On Request), Certified for FIPS140 network security and even certified for TEMPEST standards.
  • ADS has over 25 different designs to select from (6-8 centered around the Bitsy). We have over 5 XScale designs completed. We find that the closer we get to a customer's specific requirements, the happier they are. Because we have so many designs (a benefit of being a larger company), we can quickly "tweak" any one design to provide for the customer's specific requirements. We reconfigure designs all of the time, so our customers have a high confidence level of getting to market quickly.
  • ADS products have been validated for industrial-spec by the CALCE group, a nationally recognized Center for Excellence. This spec includes temperature, shock & vibe, drop, and EMI.
  • We continue to work with CALCE and Army Research Laboratories to produce electronics for service inside artillery shells at 30,000 g's.
  • If power draw is a factor, we have "ADSmartPower", which minimizes power draw (maximizing battery life) through such technologies as power partitioning.
  • Our onboard 8bit microcontroller provides added value in extensive peripheral IO.
